Why eating with chopsticks makes sense
When you were a kid, did you mother ever tell you to slow down, or chew your food 20 times? Mine did.
Today we live in such a fast paced world, with 24/7 food options at our fingertips, it can be difficult at times to slow down and let our bodies dictate how much we eat.
Eating slowly can promote mindful eating, and this also benefits our health and digestion.
It's a well known fact that It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to register fullness. Eating slowly gives your body time to signal when you've had enough, reducing the risk of overeating. In Japan, they eat until they are 80% full.
Chewing thoroughly breaks down food more effectively, which makes it easier for your stomach to process and absorb nutrients.
LET'S TALK ABOUT CHOPSTICKS
A fun way to help you slow down your eating is using chopsticks (well it slows me down because I'm not that great at using them haha).
Chopsticks make it harder to shovel large bites into your mouth, which encourages smaller bites and a slower pace.
It’s harder to overload your mouth or plate with chopsticks, promoting more moderate portions and better pacing.
Using chopsticks requires more focus and coordination, which can help bring attention to your meal and reduce distracted eating.
Because bites are smaller, you're more likely to chew thoroughly—improving digestion and nutrient absorption.
All of the above—smaller bites, more chewing, slower pace—support your digestive system by reducing bloating and discomfort.
