The best time to eat carbs

I read this really good article from Dr Mikki Williden about the timing of carbs, and I want to share this with you.

Whilst I generally have a low-carb diet (I try to have 130g/day), we don't want to cut out carbs completely. Carbs are super important, but we want to be mindful of when we eat them.

For BREAKFAST we want to get as much protein as possible. You want to aim for 30-40g first thing in the morning as this will set you up for the day, keep you full, and will help limit the afternoon sugar cravings (yep, that actually works).

Breakfast is not necessarily the time to be consuming a lot of carbs.

For DINNER and more importantly for SLEEP, it's best we have our carbs in the evening, and at least 2 hours before bed.

WHY?

Carbs promote serotonin, and serotonin converts to melatonin, and this calms the body and the nervous system. We feel happy when we eat carbs, we feel satisfied when we eat carbs, and our body will naturally relax if we eat some good carbs, such as potatoes or rice.

My favourite carbs for dinner?

Sweet potatoes - baked, mashed, steamed, and with only a little bit of fat and salt. They are so good, and so satisfying.
